Getting quality under control

Bureau of Indian Standards has introduced a series of changes, including a simplified procedure for its ISI mark certification. Director general of BIS, Alka Panda, announced that the changes will reduce the time taken to grant the license. Jindal Stainless (Hisar) Limited became the first recipient in the stainless steel segment, securing certification under two BIS standards for stainless steel flat products. The GOI has brought three BIS standards (viz, IS 6911, IS 5522 and IS 15997) into the ambit of the quality control order. Hence, all grades of stainless steel mentioned in the three BIS standards must be certified by BIS – irrespective of whether it is imported or manufactured in India.
