It’s evident across the globe that the overall business environment is severely disrupted and this unique situation has never been envisaged by any of the sectors. Companies are witnessing a change in the way business transactions are taking place and the leaders are adeptly adapting themselves and their teams to this change. A couple of important takeaways for businesses have been:
- Being agile with the entire process
- Encouraging innovation to address issues and process gaps
- Strong Intra department co-ordinations
- Uncompromising attitude with respect to colleague safety
As of July 2020, there were only a few organisations who are planning to come back, majority of the established organisations have decided not to come back with 100% manpower and for some, they have initiated a comeback with a small percentage which is around 10% of the workforce on average. Three Important factors are being focused while coming back to the office:
- Social Distancing
- Higher focus on Sanitization
- Use of technology tools to help with the entire process
A lot of focus is being given by organizations on FOW (Future of Work) and that is defining the way we will return to the office. Organisations are concerned with issues people have been facing while working from home and thus, are keen to establish a robust working environment to get them back to the office in a highly phased manner. For the first time, “wellbeing” is being focused as a mandated factor, and not just as a perk in workspaces and with the clear objective of ensuring that the employees remain safe when they work in the office. Getting back to work requires a lot of focus on redesigning the seating arrangements, protocols for meeting spaces, and the way the collaboration spaces would be used.
COVID era began with a huge focus on sanitisation products and relevant applications. GOI for the first time was seen ahead of the curve with the implementation of a strong technology solution by way of introducing the Aarogya Setu app to facilitate and give confidence to all with respect to their safety. Organisations have developed their own applications to manage the entry and exit of the employees, providing helping hand with medical services coupled with assistance if not feeling well, and much more. In the workspace high focus is being given to managing movement of employees together with the allocation of seats, having to use meeting rooms, cafeterias, etc. Change towards making the workspace more digital has been already initiated.
The biggest challenge today is to ensure compliances related to Infosec issues while working from home; organizations together with the customers are on the edge because of this issue. Business leaders today are worried about keeping the teams together and making sure that the organizational culture gets imbibed in the new entrants to their organizations. Working from home is definitely an integral part of FOW but how much and for how long duration is still to be seen. The FOW will give a lot of flexibility to the employees but will ensure that they remain connected with fellow colleagues at all times.
