Major upgradation of Nagpur railway station: Infrastructure enhancement with heritage preservation

RLDA’s ₹487.77 crore project transforms Nagpur Station into a state-of-the-art transit hub while honoring its historic charm and ensuring passenger convenience.

The Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), a statutory authority under the Ministry of Railways, is making significant progress in redeveloping the Nagpur Railway Station in Maharashtra. The comprehensive redevelopment being carried out in collaboration with Nagpur Division, Central Railways at a cost of ₹487.77 crore aims to enhance infrastructure by constructing state of the art railway station as well as preserving the heritage station building glory, creating a seamless and comfortable experience for passengers.

Construction Progress

  • East Side: Significant progress has been made, including ongoing basement construction to facilitate better parking space.
  • West Side: On the west side of the station, basement construction is progressing steadily, reflecting a strong commitment to deliver enhanced infrastructure. To minimize inconvenience to passengers, RLDA is executing basement parking work in two phases. Following successful completion of Phase-I, Phase-II work is going on in full swing. As part of Phase-II, the Monumental National Flag (‘Tiranga’), which is in the construction zone, is planned to be relocated to a new, prominent position.

The existing Passenger Reservation System (PRS) system of west side of the station is also planned to be shifted to Southern side on the Platform no I exit gate.

Commitment to Passenger Convenience·        

RLDA has prioritized minimizing passenger inconvenience during the redevelopment process. The upgraded infrastructure will include improved parking, enhanced amenities, and modernized facilities while retaining the station’s heritage charm.

Execution Strategy

The brownfield project is being executed in phases to ensure uninterrupted train operations and minimal disruption to passengers.
