This Pune-based regional corporate office houses a banking floor with a strong room as well as a few office floors, including the chairman’s lounge, conference and meeting rooms. The trapezoid shaped building’s key feature is the sectional expression manifested on the facade through fenestration and a climate responsive skin.
A central atrium in the structure ensures circulation as it connects the east and west wings, where the executive offices, conference rooms and work stations are located.
The building’s design features include two stepped landscaped spaces suspended in the atrium and a skylight in the cafeteria roof made of steel and glass, which is configured as an open-air amphitheater for up to 100 people. For the exterior, the building’s envelope is composed of alternating bands of 200mm-thick masonry walls and twisting ribbon windows that seamlessly widen into floor-height glazing narrowing down to thin bands. The continuous variation of the ribbon windows on the southern and western sides, span the entire walls, from floor to ceiling, on the northern and eastern facades to allow diffused light with minimum heat gain.
A skin of steel-perforated vertical fins covers the building on the southern and southeastern ends. These diffuse the harsh southern sunlight, allowing a more nuanced filtered light into the interiors. A variety of materials is explored throughout the building including PEB glazing, ferro crete and precast RCC for the staircase. This project is a synchronised blend of diverse programmatic, contextual and climatic responses that offer privacy and identity to various functions within it, and interconnects them using transparency, split levels, atriums and landscape.
