Spread across 19 acres, Lupin Research Park (LRP) functions as the hub of the company’s global research activity. Its R&D Block houses expansions of two groups — Novel Drug Discovery & Development (NDDD) and the Pharma R&D Group, along with administration/finance support.
This LEED Platinum-rated facility provides workspaces outside the lab in an open-plan with increased adaptability, simpler environmental controls, greater building efficiency and increased interaction. Laboratories, cubicles and workstations are clustered along the primary circulation spine to encourage interaction. An imposing front elevation with large colonnades and pergolas creates a play of light and shadow. The site’s U-shaped floor plate, lobby areas and breakout spaces reduce the need for artificial lighting. All AHUs, cooling towers and pumps are fitted with Variable Frequency Drives for maximum energy savings. The landscape incorporates plants that consume less water. Water usage is further reduced by using efficient toilet fixtures. A separate line carries recycled water for flushing, for the cooling tower makeup and for landscaping. Optimally designed glass panels ensure minimum wastage of glass. Reflected solar radiation is controlled by landscaping the immediate surroundings of the building and thus greatly reducing the heat island effect.
The design incorporates measures such as soil erosion prevention, rainwater channeling, sedimentation pits, soil stabilisation, etc. Additionally, the materials used are locally available, eco-friendly and ensure that nature is preserved and unharmed. Although, it is the stepped arenas that align the building’s front with water features and landscaped zones create a soothing atmosphere.
