Edifice Consultants has recently concluded the commissioned project of designing India’s largest cancer care centre in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The Mahamana Madan Mohan Malviya Cancer Hospital by Tata Trusts has made it to the India Book of Records for having been executed in under ten months, the shortest completion period for a cancer hospital of this size built by a philanthropic organisation in India. The complex was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Sri Narendra Modi.
The 352-bedded hospital is built on a site of 6.75 acres, and houses 13 operation theatres, six linear accelerators, 44 out-patient departments and one Bhabhatron machine, India’s first indigenously manufactured LINAC. The facility also houses a Cyclotron. With equipment sourced from global leaders in cancer care, the hospital is set to provide comprehensive yet affordable cancer care to patients in Uttar Pradesh, parts of Jharkhand, Bihar and Uttarakhand, and the neighbouring country of Nepal.
