Infor, a global leader in business cloud software specialised by industry, turned to Beyond Design Architects & Consultants to design its Bengaluru office. Infor sought to provide a productive work environment, support team unity, collaboration, and innovation, while reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and minimising its impact on the environment.
Infor chose Beyond Design for the latter’s distinctive approach to creating practical and inspiring workspaces. A driving factor in the choice of the office building was that it is a LEED platinum certified building, using building materials and design techniques that reduce its carbon footprint. So, the exterior windows were louvred to automatically adjust and reflect harsh sunlight.
Beyond Design Architects & Consultants worked with eco-conscious principles on the interiors. The floorplan was crafted to take advantage of natural lighting. The enclosed areas were taken close to the core, allowing informal gathering spaces and open workstations in the periphery to be lit naturally.\
The overall visual effect of the office is one that juxtaposes modern and retro elements. The mix creates an energetic appeal and a spark of creativity without being overwhelming or distracting. Photographs, murals and iconic graphics reinforce principles of success and team work—without being trite.
The experience starts from the reception, where a large parametric element welcomes visitors. The natural wood element contrasts with the sleek design and textures of marble, metal and fibre. While visitors are seated on modern sofas, the area is defined by a decorative retro style carpet in traditional colours and patterns. In keeping with the practical emphasis, this space also doubles as a lounge area for meet-and-greets.
Just beyond lies the work floor, informal huddle areas, quite zones conducive to concentrating, cluster areas for team collaboration, formal conference rooms and training rooms, as well as breakouts for relaxing and recharging.
Since the overall space is linear, wide fire escape routes were used to add a sense of spaciousness. At the same time, to break the monotony of the corridors, dramatic lights were introduced, creating elements of interest. Throughout, elements of brick cladded columns reinforce the retro look. The enclosed areas feature patterned acoustical wall papers, while the overall design incorporates an appropriate use of Infor branding and maintenance-free materials.
Despite the open plan, breakout areas were well-defined and designed differently with ceiling art, wall finishes and mode of seating that aligns with the type of activity intended — small group meetings, team training sessions or refreshment breaks. For example, one has a bench seating with a cloud ceiling, while the other houses a heighted table and chairs with baffle ceiling.
The graphics used in each space helps define its use and acts as subtle inspiration. Finally, a red band, consistent with Infor corporate branding, runs as a drop-down ceiling on the periphery of the building, creating a strong design and identity element to this floor.
