Designing the interior space for an organisation that enables its stakeholders to create and reinforce their brand value and equity, requires more than just a keen eye for aesthetics and positioning of office furniture and utilities.
Making interior spaces come alive enough to speak volumes of what the organisation is all about requires a thorough understanding of the organisation, its values, goals, vision, work culture, employee dynamics, the way the space would be utilised etc. and using these attributes as pointers while conceptualising the design.
The office for MG Motors, an international automobile brand, located in Gurugram, is one such exemplary project designed by Architect Vistasp & Associates. Every office needs a space that reflects its own ideations, its growing sensibility — a space that captures the essence of its principles.
Threading on the same though-process, for the launch of their new office in the country, the company needed a workplace that reflected its brand ideology and aspirations. The brief was to create a workspace that is vibrant, energetic with a British Legacy that was subtle and yet perceptible.
The point of entry, the elevator lobby, itself makes a stylized statement with elements that are anglicised through the use of barn like timber trusses and Victorian lights. The reception table highlighting the brand leads to the two wings of the office, which connects across with a crescent paneling feature that was symbolically designed as ‘The Queens Necklace.’
A confluence of modern expressions, the office design complements the profile of open and transparent system. The work halls in the two wings with exposed ceiling, oval ducts and lots of branding allows for a larger than life feeling with a variety of collaboration spaces. The programmatic requirements of the office space demanded a flexible and accommodating design, wherein the workspaces are devised to spill into different spaces for various functions. The office design establishes a sense of discovery, expressed through some captivating art and surface treatment.
Each meeting room was branded with a different graphical representation of a vehicle in a very artistic manner. Worker amenities include a full blown cafe, children's play centre, quiet reflective spaces, outdoor terraces and a few quiet rooms. Lots of plants make up the eco system of this office with LEED-certified carpets of sustainable yarn, LED lights, etc that help reducing carbon footprint.
Contrary to the heavily furnished designs of many other workspaces, the stylish and contemporary design of MG Motors’ office seems to conform well to the needs of the diverse functions of the brand’s brief. The office project signifies a thought process that brings contemporary design to represent brand aspirations, thus pushing spatial design to take up a role as corporate branding, while staying adherent to the fundamentals.
