Designing excellence: Jayesh Shah and Nimesh Solanki’s transformation of Soujanya Colour Private Limited Office

Innovative and sustainable design meets functionality in a 6,500 square foot corporate space

In April 2023, a visionary project was set in motion at Godrej II, Vikhroli. Soujanya Colour Private Limited, a global leader in innovative, sustainable colour solutions, sought to redefine its corporate office space. They enlisted the expertise of architect Jayesh Shah and design team member Nimesh Solanki to create an impressive, bespoke workspace that reflected their brand image and work culture.

Concept and Design Philosophy

The client’s brief was clear: the workspace had to embody the essence of their business—pigments and colour—while maintaining an atmosphere that wasn’t overpowering. The goal was to use colours distinctively and thoughtfully, integrating them seamlessly into the overall design.

The design concept focused heavily on the layout, especially in the public areas. A deliberate separation between public and private spaces was achieved through strategic planning and the use of different flooring materials. This approach provided the necessary privacy for staff while ensuring openness and accessibility for visitors.

The aesthetic goal was to create a unique ambience using colour blocking, patterned ceilings, and wallpapers. These elements brought the brand’s identity to life in the office environment. Public and corporate areas featured layered panelling details, while the open staff area embraced biophilic design principles. Suspended trails of plants over workstations and an open, exposed ceiling design aimed to enhance productivity and well-being.

A cosy breakout zone was created at the corner of the staff area, featuring comfortable seating and views of the greenery outside. This blend of colours, textures, materials, and patterns gave the office its distinctive character, making it a vibrant yet functional workspace.

Challenges and Solutions

The project, spanning 6,500 square feet, was not without its challenges. Coordinating various elements and collaborators required meticulous planning and execution. The design team worked closely with lighting consultants, MEP consultants, fire and safety consultants, structural consultants, landscape architects, civil contractors (GM Designs and Contracts), PMC, acoustic consultants, environmental green consultants, and facade consultants to ensure every detail was perfect.

Project Timeline and Completion

Initiated in April 2023, the project reached completion in December 2023. This timeline underscores the team’s efficiency and commitment to delivering a high-quality workspace within a relatively short period.

Visual and Technical Documentation

To document and share the transformation, a range of visual materials were prepared, including photographs, plans, elevations, sections, and sketches. These documents provide a comprehensive overview of the project from conception to completion, highlighting the intricate details and thought processes behind the design.

Conclusion

The new office of Soujanya Color Private Limited stands as a testament to innovative design and meticulous planning. Architect Jayesh Shah and his team successfully created a workspace that not only meets the functional needs of the company but also reflects its vibrant, sustainable ethos. Through careful selection of materials, thoughtful layout planning, and a keen eye for aesthetic detail, they delivered an office environment that fosters productivity, creativity, and well-being.

This project demonstrates the power of design to transform workspaces, aligning physical environments with the core values and identity of a brand. For Soujanya Color Private Limited, their new office is more than just a place to work; it’s a space that inspires and reflects their journey as a global leader in sustainable colour solutions.
