Serenity crafted: A yoga studio transformation by Studio Trikon LLP

Discover the serene blend of natural elements and modern aesthetics in this multifunctional sanctuary for self-discovery and holistic well-being in Ahmedabad.

Harmony Unveiled – As you step into the studio, you are immediately enveloped by a tranquil ambience, a sanctuary from the chaos of the outside world. The design concept revolves around creating a harmonious blend of natural elements and modern aesthetics.

Through the thoughtful interplay of textures, colours, and materials, the space invites practitioners to embark on a journey of self-discovery and inner peace. Each element in the design contributes to a serene atmosphere, fostering a deep connection between the individual and the space, and encouraging mindfulness and holistic well-being.

In this 760 sq ft yoga studio, we successfully integrated a variety of functions to create a harmonious, multifunctional space that caters to different practices. The studio accommodates aerial yoga, with suspended equipment from the ceiling; musical meditation, which requires soft, diffused lighting to set the tone for an immersive meditative experience; and both traditional and advanced yoga, where the use of props demands carefully placed bright yet gentle lighting. Each activity has been thoughtfully considered to ensure the space feels cohesive and functional.

The entrance features a cosy reception area designed as a welcoming point for instructors and students alike. This semi-private corner creates a comfortable space where instructors can engage with their students in a more personal way.

Students can also discuss personal matters that they might not feel comfortable addressing in front of the entire class. The reception is more than just a functional entry point; it’s the heart of the space, where inquiries and connections are fostered.

In this project, we balanced multiple design elements to deliver a serene yet functional environment. The lighting, in particular, has been carefully customized. We designed specialized lighting for meditation mode, creating an aura that helps practitioners feel calm and centred. The addition of a floating stage effect, elevated by ambient lighting, further enhances this tranquil atmosphere.

The stage sits within a boundary of pebbles, adding a sacred and symbolic element to the space. The pebble arrangement subtly defines the areas for the guru (teacher) and shishya (student), fostering a sense of respect and mindfulness in this shared practice area. The pebble boundary creates a psychological pause, encouraging students to reflect before stepping onto the stage and reinforcing the importance of the space.

To add to the natural feel of the studio, jute curtains have been incorporated, offering diffused lighting and an earthy, organic texture. This complements the palette of five distinct colours, which are aligned with the studio’s branding. We used matte gold for the logo and symbols, representing elegance and elevating the overall aesthetic and brand perception.

Two shades of brown were chosen to complement the logo and create a warm, grounded ambience. These tones also work beautifully with the wooden finishes, creating a sense of cohesion and unity. White, symbolising peace and purity, is strategically used to highlight and accentuate the space. Meanwhile, the ceiling is painted a deep brown to create the illusion of added height and depth, making the studio feel more expansive than its actual dimensions.

The floating stage, a central design feature, adds an ethereal quality to the room, and the inclusion of a visible props organizer with adjustable shelves ensures practicality. This exposed organizer makes it easy to access and neatly store the many props used in yoga practice, keeping the space organised without compromising the design.

The structural beams were used to install a metal-suspended ladder, further maximizing functionality while highlighting architectural elements. By maintaining an exposed ceiling, we not only achieved maximum height but also introduced a raw, industrial aesthetic. Exposed pipes and fixtures give the space a modern edge and allow for the easy addition of suspended tools like those used in aerial yoga.

Overall, this yoga studio harmoniously blends aesthetics and functionality. It is more than just a place for yoga—it’s a sanctuary where individuals can retreat, reflect, and rejuvenate, with every design detail contributing to a peaceful, welcoming, and sacred environment.
